Here is a repair project we completed recently in our shop.
Here we have a guitar owner's nightmare. This vintage Gibson jumped right out of the stand and took a nasty blow to the headstock and neck. The break is all the way through to the plastic face veneer, and a couple of the tuners were damaged beyond repair.

Here's a closer look. There are several small cracks radiating out from the break and the fingerboard has separated from the neck. You can actually see the truss rod inside the break.

The break is cleaned and carefully matched together. It is glued and clamped with special attention to alignment. The repaired area will be stronger than the original wood.

The fingerboard has also separated in areas so a syringe is used to inject glue under the fingerboard and into any small cracks. It is then clamped .

The area is lightly sanded, blended, and touched up with a stain and nitro lacquer mixture.

After final sanding and buffing it's hard to notice where the break was. A new set of Gibson Deluxe Tuners are installed and it's ready to restring and do the final neck adjustments & Setup.
